EXPLORING POSSIBILITIES FOR CHANGE THROUGH HUMAN-CENTeRED CO-DESIGN

The Social Innovation Lab is a dedicated space focused on harnessing people’s imagination and insight through human-centred co-design. Through TSIP Labs CIC, we safeguard funds designated for the community. In the Lab, we also host our flagship community-led funding model: The Giving Lab.

We work with extraordinary businesses, local governments and philanthropists to co-design, support and host funds and grassroots initiatives with local communities and people with lived experience of social issues. Our Lab is a place where communities find possibility and opportunity to lead and accelerate their own social change.

What makes the lab unique?

There’s two critical components that make the Social Innovation Lab so special:

  1. We’ve created an ecosystem where we can redress the imbalances that exist in the outside world and deliver a community led system of change that’s fair, impactful and sustainable.

  2. We deliver a real-time learning framework within the Lab and make learning outcomes as, if not more, important than any other outcome.

OUR FOCUS AREAS

Our Lab specifically works with people of colour, young people and place-based communities to drive lasting change across three major issues that matter to them: The future of work, health equity and climate justice.

The future of work

The UK continues to be outperformed by much of the rest of Europe on social mobility, further exacerbated by the pandemic. How can we build an education system and workforce that supports the green transition while supporting the values and wellbeing of young people? We’ll co-design services that support a meaningful transition to the future of work.

Health equity

There are unfair, avoidable and
growing disparities in health between different communities – especially where these communities are disproportionately affected by air pollution, toxic stress and poor
living conditions. TSIP will share learning from, and replicate, its
flagship community-led fund The
Giving Lab to demonstrate how communities can invest in tackling
these inequalities.

Climate Justice

As communities seek to respond to arguably the most pressing issue of our time, we're seeing exclusion of the very people most at risk from the effects of climate change. TSIP wants to amplify the voices of the people and communities most affected by climate change, so that local government, philanthropists and businesses seek to embed climate justice across its work.

Spotlight: The Giving Lab

In the Lab, we host our flagship community-led funding model: The Giving Lab.

From time-consuming application processes and reporting to the requirement of a host of policies - the funding landscape is hard to access by the communities that need it most. The sector must rethink existing funding practices, and co-design funds in collaboration with the communities they exist to support.

Co-designed and co-produced with local Walworth residents, The Giving Lab is a community-led fund which brings together people, organisations and businesses in West-Central Southwark to share and develop ideas for improving community health.
